Christopher Metzger is a Brooklyn based designer working in theatre, dance, and opera.
Recent Design credits: World premier of Samuel Hunter’s new play, The Healing, directed by Stella Powell-Jones with Theatre Breaking Through Barriers. New York Choreographers Institute (New York City Ballet / SAB), Outlying Islands (Coulmbia Stages), The Gifts of the Magi (LIU Post / Tilles Center) Othello (Perseverance Theatre. Juneau, AK), Schooled (Soho Playhouse/Fringe), Tracy Letts' adaptation of Chekhov’s, Three Sisters; directed by Mark Wing-Davey (NYU).
While attending NYU Christopher began collaborating with Cherylyn Lavagnino and the Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance Company. Now in their forth season together work includes: Ru, (featured in the September 2014 issue of Dance Teacher Magazine), Treize en Jeu, Herra’s Wrath (a ballet commissioned for Intermezzo Dance Company), and premiering this spring: Naděje - inspired by the works of Vaclav Havel, Alphonse Mucha, and Leoš Janáček, and Veiled, a new ballet for 7 women. His work with the company has been seen at Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, American Dance Guild, Danspace Project, and The Beijing International Contemporary Dance Festival.
As an assistant Christopher has worked with designers including: Susan Hilferty, Constance Hoffman, Moria Clinton, Jennifer Moeller, James Schuette; and with institutions such as: The Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera Festival, Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Juilliard School, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and The Public Theatre.
